About Me.

I am a Master's student in the USC-SJTU Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, working under the guidance of Professor Jian Xu. I am pursuing an M.A. in Journalism & Communication through a joint program with the Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California. Since September 2023, I have been working as an AI Ethics Research Intern at the Secure and Trusted AGI Center, Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. Additionally, I have been a research assistant at the Research Center for Health Communication and Sustainable Development, College of Arts & Media, Tongji University since December 2023. I have also participated in exchange programs, including the GEM Trailblazer Exchange Programme 2024 at Nanyang Technological University and FASStrack Asia: The Summer School 2023 at the National University of Singapore.

My research explores the impact of digital technologies (e.g., LLM-driven Agents, Mobile Games, and Virtual Influencers) on societal and individual well-being. I employ a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative techniques such as focus group interviews, digital ethnography, and grounded theory with quantitative methods, including experiments and surveys. My methodological repertoire encompasses programming and software skills in R, Python, NVivo, STATA, SPSS, AMOS, etc. I am adept at employing data analysis techniques, including regression and analysis of variance. I am also actively learning and applying computational social science methods, such as machine learning and computer simulation, to enhance my research capabilities further.

My work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including TV Research and China Radio & TV Academic Journal, as well as in peer-reviewed conference proceedings, such as the HCI International 2024 Conference Proceedings. I have also presented at international conferences, including the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC), the International Communication Association (ICA), and the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR).

I have received several prestigious awards and scholarships for my fledgling academic career. I received the Top Paper Award - Student 1st Place from the Mass Communication & Society Division at AEJMC in 2024. I was also awarded the National Scholarship for Postgraduates, the highest scholarship in China, in 2023 and 2024. Additionally, I have been recognized as an Outstanding Graduate of Beijing and the Communication University of China (CUC) in 2022.

Research Interests

Digital Health Interventions

& Wellbeing

I investigate affordable, effective, and feasible strategies to promote, protect, and restore human psychological and social well-being.

Currently, I am particularly interested in how large language model-driven digital health interventions can achieve patient-centered communication. I employ theoretically diverse approaches and an array of methods (including experiments, interviews, and national surveys) to understand and evaluate, from both patient perspectives and AI capability dimensions, how AI is changing the dynamic of patient-health provider interactions.

Emerging Technologies

&Governance

I examine the legal, moral, and social implications of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and other emerging information technologies.

Recently, I am concerned about issues such as social bias, over-reliance, and misinformation stemming from generative AI. Through interviews with AIGC moderators, I have constructed a cognitive-behavioral framework to understand how they navigate AI fairness amidst the tension between technology and society. I aim to continue exploring how we can ensure that emerging technologies, as well as the individuals and institutions designing and using them, remain open, understandable, and accountable to users and society.
